Lux Nuuksio
Lux Nuuksio is a unique celebration of living fire; an event lit with ice and snow lanterns, candles and bonfires on the shores of Lake Nuuksio! Lux Nuuksio is celebrated every year between January and February.
Lux Nuuksio was born in the cottage village of Hawkhill, Nuuksio, in 2021. The entrepreneurs of Hawkhill created the Lux Hawkhill ice lantern event for the enjoyment of the cottage village residents, with dozens of ice lanterns atmospherically illuminating the darkness of winter.
After receiving positive feedback and experiencing the joy brought by the ice lanterns, Hawkhill decided to invite all the entrepreneurs, associations and residents of the lakeside highlands from Vihti, Kirkkonummi and Espoo to join the idea. In 2022, 18 businesses, communities and associations from all over the lakeside highlands took part. As many as 903 ice lanterns were lit. Lux Nuuksio was born!
In 2023, despite the exceptionally low snow conditions, 17 organisers and 26 events were involved, with a total of 598 ice and snow lanterns or jack-o-lanterns shining. The event brought together more than 1,000 visitors from all over Nuuksio.
