Nuuksio: Salmi outdoor recreation area

Salmi outdoor recreation area in Vihti's Otalampi is also known as the northern gateway to Nuuksio National Park.

Salmi is a peaceful 860 hectare area with several well-marked outdoor trails, ranging from less than a couple of kilometres to ten kilometres in length. The trails are paved and suitable for bicycle and wheelchair use. In good snow winters, the area is used for cross-country skiing.

There are several fireplaces, cooking stoves and toilets. In addition, the Northern Inn café is open at weekends. The outdoor area also has two playgrounds, a network of fixed ropes and facilities for camping, swimming and fishing.

Salmi outdoor recreation area is located only about 40 km from Helsinki and there is plenty of space in the parking area. The nearest bus stop (Salmi th) is about 1 km walking distance from Salmi outdoor recreation area.

The Salmi outdoor trail system

The Manor Elm loop is 1.5 km long and marked in orange. There is also a beach and a sausage barbecue along the way. The trail starts from a large parking area near the outdoor house and ends at the playground behind the outdoor house.

The Paavo trail is 1.6 km long and is marked in blue. The trail starts and ends at a small parking lot just west of the large parking lot in the area. There is a picnic area along the trail at Lammasniemi. The Paavo Trail is reasonably short and easy, and is also suitable for slower walkers. Please note that the 2.9 km gravel path is also marked in blue on site, but slightly darker than the Paavo path.

The Tapio trail is about 10 km long and marked in green. The route starts and ends at a small car park just west of the large car park in the area. The trail can be followed for the full length or by taking a short cut from the Iso-Parikaka. The campfires and swimming areas are on the banks of the Big Parikka and Little Parikka. The Tapio trail is suitable for walkers of all ages and fitness levels, and is easy to negotiate throughout.

The outdoor trail also includes 2.9 km, 5 km, 6.4 km, 10.7 km of gravel paths and a 1.7 km fitness trail. Route 2000 also passes through the Salmi outdoor recreation area.

The routes are mainly along hard-surfaced outdoor trails, but the terrain is hilly, with some long and steep hills.

Services in the Salmi outdoor recreation area

The café-restaurant Pohjoinen Pirtti, which is open on weekends, is located in the Salmi outdoor recreation area. The café is run by Makujen Kipinätär oy, which also offers meeting and party services and catering on request. Biking.fi rents fatbikes in the area.

There is also a caravan park in Salmi, where you can rent seasonal pitches. For more information, contact Rastila Camping Helsinki. For information about camping possibilities, please contact the café Nordesta Pirtti. On the west side of Lake Salmijärvi, SF-Caravan Etelälahti welcomes caravanners and campers.

Nuuksio Taika, which offers accommodation, meeting, banquet and experience services, is also located on Poikkipuoliainen beach.

  • Camp only in authorised areas.
  • Only come to authorised places.
  • Don't litter.
