Vihti is taking part in the Best Winter City in Finland 2022 competition, announced by the YLE Half Seven programme. The entertaining 30-second competition piece was written by Tommi Muhli, who works as a cultural producer for the municipality of Vihti, and Eero Joenrinne (Joenrinne Films). The music video features a genuine Vihtian metal hero, the Nummelanharju Druid, exploring Vihti's winter activities on the famous ski slopes and the new magic carpet lift, on the legendary slopes of the ridge and on the popular Nordic skiing trail at Nummela Airport.
- The idea to participate in the competition came from a contact sent by an active local resident. We thought about joining for about two seconds, and then things started rolling at full steam. It's great to be able to work with real all-rounders, because after just a few days we had this masterpiece in our hands," says Petra Ståhl, the municipality's director of vitality.
The competition will be run by a panel of judges at Yle, who will select three finalists to visit the most interesting places and meet the local people. The public will be able to choose the actual winning location during the Half Seven broadcast on Midsummer Tuesday 1 March 2022. Yle says that the winner of the competition will receive fame, glory and a trophy. There will also be a live Half Seven broadcast from the winning location in the winter of 2023.
"Expectations for success are undeniably high, and the whole team has lost sleep. The actual filming was no piece of cake either, as the snow angels and other winter adventures were created in a metal ring shirt in temperatures of over 10 degrees below zero. If we make it into the top three in the final, we will be cheering Vihti on to a well-deserved victory and the best winter town in Finland," says Erkki Eerola, Mayor of Vihti.
But what does the druid of Nummelanharju think about all the fuss. Will he continue to have fun in the snow on Vihti's ski runs and slopes?
"The winter in Vihti provided world-class conditions to test the aerodynamic and thermodynamic properties of the leather pants in addition to the fur shirt, and it compares well to its northern counterparts. Vihti is brazenly and boldly in a class of its own. See you around and let's do it!"
