Spend your summer without performance anxiety by enjoying the peaceful life in Vihti. Vihti is close by with excellent transport links, which means that a trip of a day or two is easy to do at any time. And whether your perfect getaway includes spending time in the nature, enjoying the atmosphere in a café, touring second-hand shops, or taking a tour of local sights, you can find it all in Vihti!
Enjoy a Day Full of Experiences in Nuuksio
You can head to Nuuksio through the Northern Gate in the Salmi outdoor recreation area. The area offers numerous trails of various lengths for walking and cycling, well-maintained campfire sites, and the option to swim or fish. The Nuuksio area features various accommodation options ranging from tent or caravan sites to high-quality villas.
Visit the Villages
Vihti is full of active villages that charm visitors with their scenery and communal spirit. The Vihtijärvi flea market in an old log house at the Hiiskula manor is open on weekends, and Syökerin Tupa offers coffee and refreshments to visitors. Otalampi is a great place to enjoy a swim and the hand-carved log sauna Kiulu. You should also visit the local shops.
The undulating fields of Jokikunta and Vanjärvi are also home to an observation tower that is popular among birdwatchers, a ski jumping hill completed in the 1960s, and the greens and Restaurant Ventti at Hills by GoGolf. Visitors to Ojakkala are urged to take a trip to PuuhaPark activity center, which is the favorite destination of kids!
Many villages also organize their own events during the summer. You can find information about these in Vihti’s event calendar.
Culture in the Old Church Village
Niuhalanraitti that cuts across the old church village of Vihti is lined with charming old buildings oozing with cultural heritage. Can you spot the granary, the old dairy, or the fire station that was completed in 1938? And you cannot miss the Vihti church! The village square is home to the redesigned museum of Vihti, and the ruins of the medieval St. Bridget’s Church can be found in Kirkkoniemi. You should also pop by the Minkart gallery and Vihti Kino!
Take a Breather in Nature
In Vihti, you can find the space to enjoy yourself surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. The Pääkslahti nature trail weaves its way around the cape surrounded by Lake Hiidenvesi, and the sounds of the forest harmonize with the lapping of the waves. To hear rushing rapids, go to the Palakoski recreational area before the waters are calmed by the summer heat.
You can also take a more relaxed route to Nuuksio. The Klassarinkierros hiking trail in the village of Tervalampi offers four kilometers of versatile scenery and terrain. We also recommend the 3.2-kilometer Laihue trail at Lake Vihtijärvi and the 2-kilometer Kivi trail right next to it, which offers hikers a glimpse of the ancient shore of the Yoldia Sea.
The area offers many quiet beaches for relaxation. Go for a swim at the bathing area in Palojärvi, Olkkala, or Moksi, or find your perfect swimming spot in Vihti’s map service with the search term uimarannat!
Enjoy Life in Nummela
Tour the many second-hand shops in the area, or visit local brick and mortar stores or specialty shops. Did you know that you can, for example, find a lingerie store, a music shop, and a horse riding equipment store in Nummela? And when you need a break from shopping, you can pop into one of the many cafés and restaurants for refreshment.
The south side of Nummela is perfect for a relaxed day in the park. Within a couple of kilometers, you can find the Pajuniitty MultiGolfPark, the BootCamp Obstacle Course, the Menestyjien puisto park, the outdoor exercise area in Muistola park, the workout stairs in Linnanniittu, and the Nummelan Niittu wetlands. Or maybe you would like to climb up to the Nummelanharju observation tower to gaze at the sailplanes or see the Nummela Standard Baseline?
Crown Your Visit With an Event
If you want to enjoy your visit to Visit to the fullest, you should take part in one of our many summertime events. Vihdin teatteri’s summer production is the Heart of Robin Hood, which runs from July 11 to August 12 in the old church Village. The show is suitable for all ages. The Hiidenkirnu Festival is celebrated in July, and August brings us the Pahantorjuja film festival, Leijat Nummelan Satumetsän yllä, and the Wuosisatamarkkinat market day. And the arts and music festival Nummela Art Night brings a bit of light and color to the autumn on October 7!
